Northern Ireland pre-wedding photography {Gosford Forest Park, Armagh} – Linzi & Edward

As we get closer and closer to the start of wedding season, I’m really getting excited about the weddings that I have booked for this year. It’s amazing how dates that seemed so far away are now just around the corner! Linzi and Edward are getting married at the start of June, and as I didn’t get a chance to meet them before they booked it was lovely to spend some time together on their pre-wedding shoot last weekend.

Sunday was one of those days when there’s blazing sunshine one minute, torrential rain the next. I think Linzi and Edward must be lucky charms though, because the rain stopped just as they arrived and started again as we walked back to the car park. It bodes well for the wedding! We had a lovely wander around Gosford Forest Park, and I really enjoyed hearing about how Linzi and Edward met, their engagement and their wedding plans. And despite none of us really having much idea where we were going, we didn’t get lost in the woods never to be seen again! I hope you enjoy looking through a little selection of my favourite photos from their pre-wedding shoot : )

Thanks Lisa! I shoot Canon and for this shoot I used the 135mm f/2 and 50mm f/1.2 almost all of the time, with 35mm f/1.4 for the wide shots at the end :)

I just love your work, your images are always amazing (I’m sure you hear this all the time!). Out of curosity what lens are you using?

Northern Ireland pre-wedding photography {Derry Craft Village & walls} – Suzann & JP

I always love it when couples incorporate something personal into their engagement shoots, and choose locations that really mean something to them. Yesterday I blogged some engagement photos taken at a bride’s family farm, and for today’s shoot Suzann and JP decided to have some photos taken at JP’s family business on Shipquay Street in the centre of Derry city. We started the session by visiting the nearby Craft Village, and taking a walk along the famous walls, where the late afternoon sun was shining but the wind was bitterly cold! We then got ourselves into the warmth for tea and cupcakes at Pauline’s Patch, a really cool location for some photos. I really like coming back to Derry for photoshoots, I think I appreciate my home town much more now that I look at it through a photographer’s eyes, so I really enjoyed this shoot. I can’t wait for Suzann and JP’s wedding this summer, I’m sure that Suzann will be a really stunning bride! Here are a few of my favourite images from the session…

Northern Ireland pre-wedding photography: Sinead & William

You might have noticed that I’ve fallen a little bit behind with my blogging! It’s been almost a month since my last post, and what a month it has been! I’ve got another packed wedding season this year, but unlike last year, most of the weddings are concentrated in the summer months, so when I looked at my calendar and realised that it might be November before I get any decent amount of time off I decided to take my holidays a bit earlier this year. In the past few weeks I’ve been riding huskies and seeing the Northern Lights in Lapland, driving around Ireland with a photographer friend, and just a couple of days ago I watched my sister get married in the beautiful Cabra Castle in Co Cavan – it’s been eventful! I’m now feeling refreshed and excited about all of the fantastic weddings that are coming up over the next few months.

In between all of the trips, my cameras haven’t been totally neglected – I’ve got a couple of engagement shoots, a newborn shoot and a wedding to blog over the next few days! First on the list is the engagement shoot of Sinead and William. We met a few weeks ago at Sinead’s family farm in the Sperrins, and I have to say that it was some of the most miserable weather I’ve ever had on a shoot! It was freezing cold, the skies were almost black and the sleet was battering down, but Sinead and William smiled and laughed and shivered their way through! It’s so lovely to see how much fun they have together, I’m sure the wedding will be a really great day. Here is a little selection of my favourite photos from their pre-wedding shoot, including guest appearances from some cows and beautiful dog Spitz : )

Northern Ireland pre-wedding photography {Murlough Bay} – Annie & Steven

I’m very excited to be sharing my first shoot of 2013 with you this morning, I’m so looking forward to all the fantastic portrait sessions and weddings that I’ve got in the diary for the next few months – it’s going to be a busy one! The first wedding of the year for me will be Annie and Steven’s, in just a few short weeks, so I think it’s appropriate that they’re also the first engagement session of 2013 to be featured.

I don’t think anyone will have failed to have noticed how cold it’s been recently, so I have to say massive thanks to Annie and Steven for braving the freezing winds for their photoshoot at Murlough Bay on Saturday. This is one of my absolute favourite places to shoot because the backdrop – the amazing Mourne mountains – is always changing depending on the season, the time of day and of course the weather. When I arrived at Murlough there were dark clouds completely obscuring the view, sleet was falling and there was a sea of grey everywhere I looked – not ideal! But fortunately by the time Annie and Steven arrived the clouds had lifted, the beautiful snow-covered mountains were revealed and there was even a tiny hint of pink in the sky for a few minutes (though I don’t think we can really justify calling it a sunset). We had to work quickly to stop ourselves freezing, but I hope you’ll agree that it was worth the time out in the cold – Annie and Steven are such a photogenic couple, I really love these photos and I can’t wait for the wedding!

PS: at the SWPP Photographic Convention in London last week I had a few photographers approach me to tell me that they read my blog, so I just wanted to say hello and thank you! It’s nice to know it’s not just my mum reading (no offence mum!). Please feel free to leave a comment now and then, I always love hearing from fellow photogs : )

2012 Photographic Review Pt 1: newborns, babies, families and couples

Welcome to Part 1 of my 2012 Review of the Year!

It seems like yesterday I was putting together last year’s review, but I can hardly believe how many fantastic people I’ve photographed since then. This part of the Review will concentrate on the non-wedding side of my year: the engagement shoots, family photos, and (everyone’s favourites!) the newborns. I want to take this opportunity to thank every single one of my clients for making 2012 such an amazing year – looking through these photos brought back lots of happy memories, and I remember each one like it was yesterday. From the peaceful newborn shoots, to the fun-filled baby sessions, to running around like a maniac after toddlers, 2012 was the year I really fell in love with family sessions. Weddings are something special but it means just as much to me to be recording happy, everyday moments in a young family’s life. I hope you enjoy looking through this whistle-stop tour through my year in portraits!
